2nd Grade

Religion

·         Parables and the local church/Diocese

·         Prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation as well as First Communion

·         To understand that the Church is “the people of God” and a sign of God’s presence in our world today

·         To acquire knowledge of the doctrines of our Catholic faith in age appropriate lessons

·         To participate in the liturgical and sacramental life of our church

·         To develop a moral conscience using the teachings of Jesus and the Church as a guideline

Language Arts

·         Clearly state a 2-6 step sequence of directions

·         Use word order and context clues for word identification, pronunciation, and meaning

·         Use of phrases and expression in oral reading as well as apply the functions/uses of compound words, homographs, syllables, prefixes, suffixes, and spelling/capitalization rules

·         To read and comprehend a wide variety of print texts and genres to understand their world

·         To understand and apply phonics rules and strategies in the decoding and spelling of words

·         To use the writing process

·         To recognize that a paragraph is a group of sentences about a main idea

·         To demonstrate age-appropriate understanding of English language structure and conventions

·         To begin to use cursive lettering

Math

·         Solve 2-digit + and – problems with regrouping

·         Write #’s appropriate to grade level in words, expanded form, and in standard notation

·         To understand numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers, and number systems

·         To understand meanings of operations and how they relate to one another

·         To compute fluently and make reasonable estimates

·         To represent and analyze mathematical situations and structures using algebraic symbols
